Estate of Bruce Van Wagner and Laura Robinson, Spring Island, SC and Other Owners

Featured in the auction is property from the Estate of Coca-Cola Heiress Laura B. Robinson (great granddaughter of Frank Robinson) and her husband Bruce Van Wagner, former CEO of Anixter Bros. Inc.  Mrs. Van Wagner was a big game hunter and philanthropist and filled their Spring Island, SC home with fine things picked up on her travels.  Highlights include a painting of elephant country by David Shepherd, a watercolor and 2 drawings by Savannah artist Ray Ellis, a portrait of a woman from the school of Bartholomeus Van Der Helst, a large group of Chinese Rose Medallion porcelain, numerous pieces of English and Continental Furniture and Decorative Arts, including an unusual French Tole Bedstead and many other things.

Fine Art highlights include two strong works by Gabriele Munter, a German Expressionist painter and member of the Blaue Reiter group, a historical work by the Belgian painter Ferdinand de Braekeleer of the Defense of Antwerp and a watercolor of a vineyard by Russian artist Natalia Sergeevna. American fine art offerings include a Franz Kline abstract oil on paper, a Sanford Gifford painting of Mansfield Mountain Vermont, lithographs by Andy Warhol and Alex Katz, a still life by Claude(ine) Raguet Hirst and several works by Savannah artist Hattie Saussy.

Other items of interest include many pieces of Art Glass, ranging from G. Argy Rousseau pate de verre glass from the beginning of the 20th century to more contemporary works by Mark Peiser and Richard Jolley.
