Fine Art and Antiques from Estates and Various Collectors

February 15th-March 7th

This sale features an interesting and eclectic array of property from several Savannah and Sea Island private collections, a Florida private collection as well as coins from a Savannah estate. All bidding to take place on from Tuesday, February 15th through Monday, March 7th.

A special group of property comes to us from a couple who were Mrs. Charles Wrightsman’s personal assistants for many years. They are now parting with some of the items Mrs. Wrightsman gave them. One of the highlights of this group of property is a Meissen tureen with lemon finial and pair of plates, circa 1750-1755. They are illustrated in volume IV of the Wrightsman Collection book published by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Another wonderful object is a pair of English fruitwood adjustable candlesticks by Edmund Nye, circa 1830, purchased from Mallett by Mrs. Wrightsman in 1977.

Some other highlights of the sale include a large group of English tea caddies including an Aubergine caddy, a George II chest on chest, a Chippendale style blockfront desk, a Delaware River Valley ladderback chair, an unusual pair of gilt cast iron mirrors and a green painted American fire bucket. There is a large group of Asian items in the sale including porcelain, prints, screens and furniture from various Georgia private collections.

The fine art section of the sale has paintings by several Scandinavian artists including Gottfried Kallstenius, Evald Kallstenius, John Arsenius, Sorin Christensen and Emile Christensen as well as a wonderful painting of Durham Cathedral by the English artist David Wright.
